ELN LJUBLJANA MEETING | 18-20 APRIL 2016CONDUCTING EVIDENCE SYNTHESES ON LITERACY RESEARCHLiteracy research has progressed much in identifying key aspects of both literacy development and how to effectively promote it in a literacy world facing a digital revolution. ELN Ljubljana meeting will be mainly devoted to progress workings to accomplish the Action’s societal goals and in establishing ELN’s societal team. This meeting will gather in Ljubljana representatives from the Action three working groups and their most active teams. The meeting is open to literacy researchers and the general interested public.
The ELN Ljubljana meeting will be held at the Faculty of Education of University of Ljubljana from the 18th to the 20th of April, 2015. Tatyana Yakhontova, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, short-bio
Tatyana Yakhontova is a Professor of English and Linguistics at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine). She teaches the courses of English for Academic Purposes to doctoral students. Her research interests include genre and discourse analysis, research writing and contrastive rhetoric. Prof. T. Yakhontova has published a monograph, a textbook on English academic writing and more than 140 papers in Ukrainian and international books and journals. Together with her colleagues, she founded the Center for English Academic Writing (2006) – the first in Ukraine and one of the first writing support structures in Eastern Europe, which offers various activities and popularizes the teaching and learning of writing. She took part in more than 60 conferences, was awarded grants from several scientific and educational foundations, and participated in a number of international research projects.
Daleen Klop, Stellenbosch University, short-bio
Daleen Klop is a senior lecturer in the Division of Speech-Language and Hearing Therapy at Stellenbosch University. She is involved in teaching and clinical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students since 1991. Her current research interests are narrative assessment and intervention in multicultural populations and the use of multimedia to develop language and literacy in young children. Her special interest is the development of intervention programmes for children from disadvantaged communities who are at risk for scholastic failure.
Pietro Boscolo, Universtiy of Padova, short-bio
Pietro Boscolo is Emeritus professor of the University of Padova (Italy), where he was professor of Educational Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology. One of the first members of EARLI, he has been elected president in 2005. In 1987 he founded, with M. Fayol, the Writing SIG.
His research focuses on motivated learning in specific domains, that is the relationships between cognitive and motivational aspects in learning subjects at various levels of education, including university: mainly writing, but also literature, history, and science. He has published books, essays and articles on these themes. Regarding writing, in particular, he co-edited with E. Espèret and M. Fayol a special issue of the European Journal of Psychology of Education (1991), with S. Hidi the volume Motivation and writing: Research and school (Elsevier, 2007), and with P. Klein et al. Writing as a learning activity (Brill, 2014). In recent years he has been particularly involved with writing at undergraduate level. Sven Strömqvist, Lund University, short-bio
Sven Strömqvist, Ph.D., is professor of Language Learning, Centre for Languages and Literature, Lund University. He has been concerned with mainly three research areas: language development in children and adolescents, comparative studies of the activities of speaking and writing in real time, and cognitive consequences of linguistic diversity.
Sven led the creation of the Lund University Humanities Lab, a cognitive neuroscience lab targetted at students and researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences who would like to take their research to a sharper empirical level – and he was its first director 2006-2009. In 2009-2015 he was Pro Vice-chancellor of Lund University with a special responsibility for research. In that capacity, he worked to promote cooperation across academic disciplines to identify and solve problems of both theoretical and societal importance. Sven is a board member of Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation, which has sponsored several research and educational projects, among other things between Stanford University and universities in Sweden. |
